We are not crazy "New Years Eve" people - in fact, I can recall several years while living in the Mountain or Central time zones, we would celebrate New Years with the East Coast and just go to bed. This year however, New Years marked the completion of a pretty incredible feat.
At the end of last year, Trevor said, "Dad, how much would you pay me if I could go without sugar for a full year?" Well, I thought the chances of that happening were somewhere between SLIM and NONE so I said, "$500". I don't know this for sure, but I would guess that kids now days are offered candy or some sort of sweet, nearly every day - Trevor's determination was incredible. To tell you the truth, he has inspired me and really set an incredible example. My 9 year old son did something I think very few of us could do. So we threw him a party with several of our close friends (and I made good on my promise)

We played games, snacked, talked, and built gingerbread houses - here are the kids, showing off their creations.

Here we are watching some stunt guy jump onto a tower in Las Vegas - pretty exciting stuff!
The lovely ladies - Christine Wozniak, Gundi Lobo, Gina Manning and Sarena.
And here are the guys - not nearly as good looking. Peter (on the left) is really not that short, but everyone looks and feels a little shorter than usual when standing next to Jason. John is next to Jason and then me.

Yea Trevor! I am so impressed. There is no way I could have done that. What are you going to do with the money? Looks like a fun party. We watched the guy jump onto the Arc too. Amazing and scary. Did you rearrange your front room? Happy New YEar!
TREV--You are amazing! Look for something in the mail from the Clarkes! Glad you all had a fun New Year! -Sarena I love your hair curled!! Thats really funny with the pic of the guys--the short guy--my heart goes out to him. Reminds me of a shorty I know! ;)
Way to go Trev!!!! You rock!
Tevor is a terrific kid. Does candy seem really sicky-sweet to him after a year without it?
That party looks like fun! And Trevor that is seriously impressive. Kyle and I are going three weeks without sugar and its KILLING me. You deserve $500!
Nice work Trev! We were wondering tho; what is he going to do with $500? I remember at that age feeling that $20 was a hord! You'll have to let us know what he gets.
Looking at all the fun things you've been doing made us miss you guys tons. We totally wish we could've been there for Christmas break w/ all the snow. We loved the TX-sized boots, too. Awesome! I was envious of the Scout nerf party (I would've rocked them all!); we love the new look, Sarena, and nice job on the piano recital, Kenz and Sarena!
What a fun party! that is so amazing that Trevor could accomplish that. I know I probably eat something with sugar daily. So Todd asked a good question-- what will he do with the money-- Maybe a trip out to D.C.? Just kidding! We do miss you though. I also want to say how much I, personally, love the Texas slippers. Too perfectly awesome. It is good to always remember that everywhere else is good-- but everything is bigger and better in Texas. So-- someday you could move back-- just something to keep in the back of your minds.
Hey Sarena! I got your Christmas card and picture. Super cute family! Let's keep in touch.
